Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)
Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) is a sensitive Non-Destructive Testing method used to identify surface-breaking discontinuities on suitable non-porous materials.
Revealing Surface-Breaking Defects
At KLASIC Oil Inspection Services Limited, PT provides clients with an effective method for detecting fine surface defects that may not be readily visible during normal visual examination.
HOW PT WORKS
The inspection surface is prepared and cleaned before a specially formulated penetrant is applied.
The penetrant enters surface-breaking discontinuities through capillary action. After the required processing stages, the resulting indications can be examined and evaluated by qualified inspection personnel.
APPLICATIONS
PT can be applied to suitable:
- Welds
- Castings
- Forgings
- Machined components
- Valves
- Flanges
- Pressure-containing components
- Non-ferromagnetic components
- Fabricated equipment
WHAT PT CAN DETECT
Depending on the material and inspection conditions, PT can reveal:
- Surface cracks
- Seams
- Laps
- Surface porosity
- Lack of fusion
- Other surface-breaking discontinuities
INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS
Our PT services support:
Oil & Gas
Marine
Petrochemical
Power
Construction
Fabrication
Maintenance and repair
PT is particularly valuable where a component requires examination for fine surface-breaking defects but magnetic particle testing is not applicable.
WHY KLASIC?
We focus on proper surface preparation, controlled inspection execution, indication evaluation and clear documentation to ensure that PT results provide meaningful information about the condition of the examined component.
